A National Water Supply and Drainage Board scheme drawing on the Nilwala river to serve 12 divisional secretariat areas in Matara and part of Hambantota. Its design-and-build contract was ended by mutual agreement in January 2023 at 93.4% progress, so the remaining works are still to be completed.
